Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (open box)

From the famous PC casing and thermal solution company – Cooler Master, the Hyper 212Plus.

Just an upgrade for my current PC, code name “Project 955” (I still haven’t think of a name for her).

To be frank, I got this CPU cooler along with the XFX Radeon HD5770 XT graphics card, then I got lazy and decide to post it much later..

Main reason for getting a third party CPU cooler for my PC is because of the stock cooler that came along with AMD processor is so d@mn noisy.. I’m fed up with the vacuum-cleaner-noise..

The packaging has the same design as other Cooler Master products, especially the colour scheme of white + purple.

Of course filled with all the details of the product.

Open box, everything are packed into this transparent plastic thingy.

Taking out everything. Parts included:

• 120mm fan
• heatsink
• retention bracket (for both Intel and AMD)
• backplate (for both Intel and AMD)
• screws and nuts
• thermal paste
• 2 sets of fan mounting clips (for optional 2nd fan)
• user manuals and warranty

The contact of the heatsink is not that flat… anyway, for now I have no intention for lapping it. (Lapping means sanding, which makes the surface flatter and smoother for better contact between CPU and heatsink.)

Ops, I got too excited and didn’t took any photo of the heatsink itself.. (sorry)

Included fan – Cooler Master Blademaster 120mm. You could purchase another optional 120mm fan to make a Push-n-pull air flow. There are 2 sets of fan clips included.

Noticed that the fans are attached with rubber feet to reduce vibrations.

Cleaned my CPU surface… preparing to install.

First have to remove the stock heatsink lock.

Replace it with the included backplate. (under exposed photo)

Ops.. underexposed again…

Put on a thin layer of thermal paste.

Install the heatsink.. the process is quite challenging as this is my first time to install a third party cooler..

Clip on the fan, connect the power connector. Checking and up and running.

My very first third party cooler… and largest ever…

And I did some testing on it… the testing unit:

Here’s the result of my CPU temperature. (Stock vs Hyper 212+) Ambient temp is 28c, air conditioned.

• Stock cooler, Idle temp = 44c, Load temp = 60c
• Hyper 212+, Idle temp = 40c, Load temp = 52c

I’m very sure that it could perform better but due to my skill of applying the thermal paste sucks… so…(I think I put a bit too much thermal paste…)

Anyway, it was a great experience for me. If I get my hands on other thermal pastes.. I shall reapply it.

As conclusion, The Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is value for the price you paid. 100% recommended if you’re looking for a cheap third party cooler.
