Lately my schedule is jam packed with all sorts of amazing events, which literally means that I have less time to spend on writing. One of the event that I attended is the Force of Will Blogger Event organized by Knight Connections in collaboration with Classroom Cafe.
Force of Will (FoW) is a new fantasy TCG made in Japan by Force of Will Co. It was released only in Japanese language back in 2012. Then English version came by since January 2014.
Speaking of Trading Card Games (TCG), it reminds me of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! (YGO!) back in primary school. While I do collect some of the Pokemon cards, but then, because YGO!’s gameplay is more appealing to me. More importantly, since most of my friends are into the game, naturally I spent most of my time playing it with them. Still, part of the reason why YGO! is so popular among us is due the YGO! manga. I bet any of us who played YGO! have imagined all those dueling scenes in the manga, as if we’re the character in the story. Don’t you agree?
Good times, but after 2 years into secondary school, most of my friends drop the hobby and switch to PC gaming. Sooner and later I sold off my collection and related stuff because there isn’t anyone at my age picking up the game anymore. It’s been like 10 years since then and just recently I had all these great memories coming back to me after attended the FoW blogger event.
Pardon me for switching into grandfather story mode, let’s get back to the blogger event where I first hand experienced the gameplay of FoW with the awesome folks at Classroom Cafe.
For starters, there’s a few types of Starter Decks: Fire, Light, Darkness, Wind & Water.
During the learn to play session, I get to try out the Light Starter Deck: Knights of the Round Table.
At first I’m quite confused with all the rules and phases. especially the terminologies and the flow. But eventually I got hold of the overall gameplay thanks to my previous experience in TCG.
The objective is straight forward – to defeat your opponent by decreasing his/her life point from 4000 to 0.
Did I ever mention the cards have fantastic artworks?
At the end of the day, I took home a pack of Light Starter Deck to try out on my own.
List of the content at the back of the package.
Nicely wrapped.
Instruction booklet.
The starter pack also comes with a colour rule sheet.
Another side of the rule sheet.
Then the complimentary Play Mat.
Due to the release of the English version is less than 1 year, hence the game itself has yet gain much traction in the country’s TCG community. But from what I had experienced during the short introductory gameplay session, I’m rather confident that FoW will be slowly pick up its pace within Malaysian TCG community, especially when the gameplay is interesting and there’s a team working hard to push the game to masses.
